Army Corporal and goalkeeper Abdullahi Zalli has officially parted ways with Enyimba FC following the expiration of his contract at the end of the 2024/25 season. The 22 year old made 17 appearances in his second season as the clubs second-choice shotstopper before deciding on his next career move.

Zalli, who joined Enyimba at the start of that campaign from Doma United, earned praise for his professionalism and balance between military service and football. He previously spent three seasons at Doma United before signing for the Aba giants.

Editorial

We respect Zallis decision to step away from Enyimba following two solid seasons especially considering his dual commitment as a soldier in the Nigerian Army and a top-tier goalkeeper.

At Enyimba, he served with integrity. Despite playing behind Super Eagles B shotstopper Ani Ozoemena, Zalli stood ready when called upon, stepping into 17 matches and contributing to the clubs campaigns in both the NPFL and Confederation Cup. That kind of resilience deserves recognition.

His departure now presents a blank page and fresh possibilities. Without contract constraints, Zalli can pursue clubs where consistent first-team action is more attainable whether in the NPFL or beyond. Having featured in Enyimbas competitive, high-pressure setting, he arrives at his next destination with maturity and experience.

For the club, releasing him reflects recalibration; Enyimba continue refining the squad, absorbing success and returning to ambition. And for Zalli, the exit may signal readiness to lead rather than serve.

He made 17 league appearances during his time with Enyimba, mostly serving as understudy to the first-choice goalkeeper.

Zalli holds the rank of Army Corporal in the Nigerian Army, and intends to return to military service after his football career.

He was part of the squad that competed in the CAF Confederation Cup and Federation Cup alongside the NPFL, helping maintain squad stability through rotation.

His exit follows a wave of change at Enyimba, which saw 13 players depart after the 2023/24 campaign, signalling a broader rebuilding plan.
